Bettina

Bettina Megowan was born and raised in Lahr, Germany. She received her Rhythmic Gymnastics training at the German National Training Centers in Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. She was a member of the German National Team for rhythmic gymnastics from 1981 to 1987 and competed in many national and international competitions including the World Championships in Valladolid, Spain in 1985.

After retiring from competition, Bettina went on to coach both rhythmic gymnastics as well as work with gymnasts and dancers at all levels. Bettina earned a Master's degree in Exercise and Sport Science with a minor in English in 1996 from Freiburg University, the same year she moved to the United States with her husband Noah Megowan. At that time she started to work at Westside Academy as a dance instructor and artistic gymnastics coach. Soon after she founded the Rhythmic Gymnastics Program at Westside. Bettina directed the program for Westside Gymnastics and coached girls level 5-9 until 2000.

In 2001, Mrs. Megowan received her teaching license for physical education and German from Portland State University. She taught at Canby High School and Lake Oswego High School before taking time off for her three daughters.

For the past years, Bettina has been the administrative director for the team and she will continue to be available for the parents, coaches and Westside.


Dennitza


Dennitza was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. She started training in Rhythmic Gymnastics when she was 7 years old. Dennitza is responsible for our competitive levels 6-8.

Her professional experience and achievements as a gymnast and a coach include:
2011: Region 2 Coach of the Year; Level 6 Open Championships 2nd place team.
2009: JO American champion Level 7 -AA; JO Level 6 2nd place -AA CH-B
2009: Regional champion Level 6 and Level 7 -AA; State champion Level 6 and Level 7 -AA
2009: ChicagoLand Invitational champion Level 6 and Level 7 -AA
2008: Level 10 Elite Squad Qualifier; Level 5 Future Stars Qualifier
2008: National champion Level 5 -AA; Rhythmic Challenge Level 10 -AA 2nd Place
2008: Chicagoland Invitational champion Level 5 -AA; Regional champion Level 5 -AA
2007: Chicagoland Invitational child division champion –AA; International Boston Cup junior division -2nd Place
2007: Rhythmic Challenge – AA 9th Place, 2nd Place in Ball; Level 9 – AA 2nd Place
2007: U.S. National Championships Level 10 Gymnast placed 16th
2005-2006: Choreographer for Estonian gymnasts
Gymnast placed 2nd in the 1999 Nordic Championships; 3 gymnasts are on the Junior Norwegian National Team
1993: sent by Bulgarian Federation to develop the Rhythmic Gymnastics Program in Spain; gymnast was a member of the Spanish National Team.
1992: sent by the Bulgarian Federation to develop the Rhythmic Gymnastics Program in South Africa.
1991-1987: Bulgarian National Team Member; 1991 World Championship Silver Medalist- Sr.; 1990 European 1st Place Champion -Sr.; 1990 World Cup Gold Medalist -Sr; 1989 European 1st Place Champion –Jr.

Wuling

Wuling earned her masters degree, and was recognized as the first person to obtain a Masters in rhythmic gymnastics in China.

Wuling spent 9 years as National team coach in US, and also an International judge in rhythmic gymnastics. She has been coaching Rhythmic Gymnastics in the Portland Area for 19 years. She has produced many Junior and Senior Nationals team members and National Champions during her coaching career. She has consistently supported Rhythmic Gymnastics through coaching and judging in our region and is an integral part of this sport's community in the region and in the nation.

Wuling has an energetic style of coaching that gets results, and makes her a favorite at the Academy. She is responsible for our recreational program as well as for our competitive levels 3-5.
