Mellanie Heniff, Co-owner

Mellanie started Westside Dance Academy in 1984 at its current location, formerly named Portland Gymnastics Center and Carla Webber Studio of Dance.  She took over the Gymnastics Business in 1996 and changed the name to Westside Dance & Gymnastics Academy.

Mellanie trained in Dance & Gymnastics starting at the age of 7, at Portland Gymnastics Center and Carla Webber Studio of Dance.  She competed in both Gymnastics and Dance for many years, and started teaching at the age of 14.  Mellanie had a passion for teaching and new early on that she wanted to devote her time to teaching children dance & gymnastics.  Over the years she has had many students continue on to professional dance and performing.  Some of those students have returned and currently teach classes at Westside or have their own children enrolled in the program.

Mellanie now spends her time managing the academy and occasionally still teaches classes.  In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, genealogy, Zumba, golf, skiing, hiking, working out, and spending time with her family.  Mellanie has a daughter, Madison, who has competed on Westside’s artistic gymnastics team and rhythmic team.  Madison also loves to dance and is currently a member of Westside’s Performing Company, Ballet Company and Hipnotic Jr. Crew.

Alexandra Fletcher, otherwise known as Allie, is 22 years old and grew up around the Portland area.  She graduated from Clackamas High School, completed a year at Clark College, and then transferred to Portland Bible College, where she is continuing her education.

She loves learning new things and studying history.  She also enjoys knitting, reading, cooking, gardening, fishing, and helping her older brother with his chickens and his four acres of land he has out in Sandy, OR.

Her number one favorite thing: her family.  Her second favorite thing: children.  Children are so precious, funny, and so full of life.  They are the future.  Allie is so thankful to get to be apart of their lives, encouraging and shaping them to have good morals and values and manors.  She has grown up working with children and took classes in high school on child development.

Allie is currently working here at Westside Academy in the front office and in the after school care program, as well as all day activity camps.  She also works at Heritage Church in Vancouver, WA as the two-year-old teacher.

Allie has been apart of Westside since her preschool years, being involved in dance, gymnastics, and the preschool and after school care.  She also has great memories from all the birthday parties she’s had here. It’s a great environment to learn and grow, and to meet new friends and faces.
